Go get yourself an external firewire or usb hard drive at least as big as your internal drive. It turns out that my filesystem on my internal hard drive is case sensitive, but the external hard drive had the default case-insensitive file system. Then I cloned the external drive back onto the internal drive and it failed with the same no pages selected problem.
